The challenge of this project was to create a simple way to organize and give access to the very large and diverse content archives of the FFT. Besides this content architecture challenge, we had to support heavy traffic peaks during ratings publication (1.2 million players connect to the site in 24 hours) and Rolland Garros event. We also were requested to create a closed social network for the 1M registered players.
Working in close relationship with the design agency and the FFT IT teams, we set up a simple and clean content architecture which avoided allowing users to interact with HTML or even WYSIWYG. We implemented a re-usable digital assets system (Asset module), strict publishing workflow and integrated an OpenX server to push banners and auto-promotions inside pages. We also created the social network using Organic Groups and connected them to FFT’s internal web services.
FFT is now used by millions of visitors on a daily basis. Site is performant and handles tremendous trafic peaks relying on a robust architecture using Redis, Varnish and NGnix. The FFT Social Network has a high adoption rate and more than 70% of users connect on a weekly basis. The site never failed or crashed during a Rolland Garros event. Game, set and match!
